It can be hard to recycle furniture through our local refuse hauler. And you may not want to trash a decent piece of furniture you’re looking to get rid of. Fortunately, we do have options. You can try to resell your furniture through a consignment shop or donate it to an agency who will pass it on to someone less fortunate.
Still Life Home Consignment, 68 Tower Street, Hudson, MA resells furniture, home decorations, paintings, pictures, and mirrors and may accept other similar items. Consignment Gallery at 56 accepts consignments of furniture and other home furnishings. They will take whole estates or just one piece and they can pick up your item(s). Contact them at (978)3656456 or stop by their shop at 56 Sterling Street in Clinton, MA.
Calphalon will recycle a piece of your old cookware for each piece of Calphalon Unison non-stick cookware you purchase through their Calphalon ReNew program. Included with your new pan is a pre-paid mailer that can be used to send your old cookware to them for recycling. Upon receipt of your mailing, they will send you “two 100% recycled cotton shoppers.”
Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance’s Donations Clearinghouse takes donations of furniture and household goods for reuse. Call 508-791-7265 x22 to schedule a pick up. They have scheduled days that they visit various towns – see their website for those specifics. You can drop off items to them at 7-11 Bellevue Street, Worcester, MA during these hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:30 – 11:30 am & 1 – 4:00pm; Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
Furniture must be in good condition as it will be given to families in need. These may be families who are leaving shelters and setting up apartments for the first time, elderly on fixed incomes, or flood/fire victims who have lost their belongings and are starting over.
The following are the types of items they will accept: kitchen & dinette furniture, tables & chairs, sofas, small appliances (under 10 years old, no large appliances), full sets of dishes, pots & pans, bureaus, bed frames, mattresses & boxsprings (queen or smaller)
Abby’s House Thrift Shop – 50 High Street in Worcester accepts gently used work clothing, shoes, accessories, small furniture, small household appliances, linens, dishes, etc. All proceeds from the sale of these items go toward funding the Abby’s House shelters and programs.
The Willis Center, 119 Forest Street Worcester, MA, accepts donations of new and gently used furniture and household goods. Contact them at (508) 799-0702 ext. 135. They are looking for living room, kitchen and bedroom furniture, lamps, shelves, and mattresses.
You can schedule a furniture pick up through The Epilepsy Foundation. Call 1-888-322-8209 or go online to www.donatenewengland.org to schedule a convenient at your door pick up. They accept large and small furniture pieces as well as small appliances and electronics. In addition, donations can be made at any Savers store location.
