Wachusett Region Recycling Events – Week of 1/12/19

The West Boylston Boy Scout Troop 151 will hold their monthly redeemable bottle and can drive at the Major Edwards Elementary school, Crescent Street, West Boylston, MA, on Saturday, January 12th, from 10am-1pm. All bottles and cans that are returnable in Massachusetts are accepted. The scouts will come to your car, so you don’t even have to get out – a plus when the weather is bad! They use the proceeds to fund their activities.

An unusual way to recycle your Christmas tree is to feed it to the goats! Drop your locally bought tree (big box store trees have chemicals that aren’t good for the goats) off to Starry Hill Farm in Monson, MA, anytime and their Nigerian dwarf goats will eat the needles as a nice treat. Shea’s Flock of Fun Farm in Townsend, MA, is also accepting trees and wreaths for their Angorra goats. In Millbury, Olivia Gadwah is looking for trees for her goat, Bonnie. Ask around to see if any goats near you are looking for these treats!

WE CAN and the communities of Grafton, Northborough, Shrewsbury and Westborough, are sponsoring a regional “drive through” recycling event, open to all surrounding communities, in North Grafton on Saturday, January 19th from 10am to 1pm at 3 Library Circle (Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University). They are collecting:

  • old, unwanted small electronics, computers and laptops – see WE CAN’s website for fees
  • #6 white Styrofoam (no food containers or packaging peanuts and free of stickers and tape)
  • stringed Christmas lights and cordsused clothing, to benefit the Westborough Girl Scouts
  • worn/torn sheets, towels, and blankets, for the Cummings Veterinary Medical Center
  • new or like new craft and office supplies

Recycle your stringed Christmas lights by sending them to HolidayLEDS. In return you’ll get a 15% off coupon to use on their site. Lights are accepted for recycling all year round.

Happy Recycling!
