Wachusett Region Recycling Events – 6/1/13

Lots of new donation or recycling events in the coming days…

Princeton’s Brownie Troop 30114 will be collecting pet items to be donated to local animal shelters on Saturday, June 1, from 10am until noon.  Items they will collect: blankets, towels, kitty litter, pet toys, food, dry and canned, dog/cat crates, cat/dog beds.  Items should be in good condition and food should not be past its expiration date. The collection event will be held on the on the Princeton Town Common and there will be collection box at the Thomas Prince School, 170 Sterling Road. A collection like this is unusual but very worthwhile.

Flag Day is June 14th this year, which may have you thinking about how to dispose of your worn American flags. Big Y is working with local Boy Scouts, American Legions, VFW’s, and military organizations to collect flags so they can be properly retired. Look for the receptacle at the Big Y, 160 Reservoir Street, Holden where worn, torn, faded, or badly soiled American Flags can be dropped off through June 5th.

Paxton’s Boy Scout  Troop will be collecting redeemable bottles and cans on the Paxton Common on Saturday,  June 8. Bottles and cans must be redeemable in Massachusetts. Proceeds will fund troop activities.

Paxton’s town-wide yard sale will be held on Saturday, June 15th. For $10, you can advertise your sale on the yard sale map. Or pay $15 to have your own table on the town common. Contact Paxton Lion Nick Powlovich at (508) 755-7389 to get your address on the map or for more information.

Do you have a male mannequin that is looking for a new home? The Paxton Historical Commission needs a full-body, freestanding  mannequin to display a World War ll uniform. Contact Anita at (508) 798-5092 to arrange the donation.

Did cleaning out your closet for the spring season leave you with shoes you need to get rid of? Consider donating them to Sterling Troop 189 Boy Scout Connor Glasier.  Donations of clean, gently used men’s, women’s or children’s shoes can be made in the collection boxes at these Sterling locations: Butterick Building, 1835 Town Hall, Conant Public Library, Clinton Savings Bank, Chocksett Middle School, Houghton Elementary School and Village Green Preschool/First Church. Money raised from the shoe donations will be used for the construction of benches that will be placed by Memorial Park’s Gazebo.
