Wachusett Region Recycling Events-7/21/12


This month, the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center, 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA will be open from 2:30-4:30pm every Wednesday and from 8am until 11am on Saturday, July 21st. For more information, including which items will be collected for free or for a fee, and for reuse, click here. If you have leftover paints, stains, pool or lawn chemicals, hold onto them for the Household Hazardous Product collection scheduled for September.

Recycle your Number 6 plastic Styrofoam on Saturday, July 28th at Grace Congregational Church, 76 Salem End Rd, Framingham, MA, from 10am to 3pm. Packing blocks and peanuts, meat or other food trays, foam coffee cups, and foam takeout trays are accepted for recycling. Just in time for the upcoming school year, exchange your old worn binder for $2 off a new one at Staples. TerraCycle, Avery and Staples are working together on this initiative to recycle old binders. Click on this link for more info and to find a Staples near you. There are several Staples stores near the Wachusett region: 541B Lincoln St., Worcester, 571 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, and 436 Southbridge Street (Rt 12), Auburn, MA.

RecycleBowl registration is now open! Any elementary, middle or high school in the US and District of Columbia can enter to compete either against all schools in the nation or all schools in their home state. During the collection tracking period, keep track of your school’s onsite recycling efforts and log it on the RecycleBowl website (because only onsite recycling counts in this competition, schools that participate in community recycling are not eligible to participate). Win a gift card just for completing your online reporting or win up to $1000 by recycling the most material. See their website for rules and the list of acceptable materials.

The Worcester Regional Association of Realtors Community Action Committee is asking for donations to its annual Backpack Drive. They are collecting new backpacks and school supplies to give to needy kids this upcoming school year. New items like pens, pencils, glue, glue stick, notebooks, folders, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, tape, and all those things that classrooms need are requested. In the Wachusett region, donations can be dropped off to the Janice Mitchell realty office at 1023 Main Street, Holden, MA between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, and from 11am to pm on Sundays.

In Sterling, MA, Hiram O. Walker American Legion Post 189 is taking donations of ink and laser cartridges, cell phones, GPS devices, MP3 players, laptops, and digital cameras. They will recycle donations items for proceeds that will be put towards the legion hall’s floor repair. Items can be dropped off to the legion hall (32 School Street), Sterling Town Hall (1 Park Street) or Light Department (50 Main Street), Sterling DPW Recycling Center (171 Worcester Road), the Clinton Savings Bank (1 Main Street), or Leominster Credit Union (7 Main Street) in Sterling.
