Wachusett Region Recycling Events-7/7/12


On Saturday, July 7th, you can recycle electronics, car/truck batteries, and bicycles in the parking lot of Our Lady of Good Council church, 111 Worcester Road, West Boylston, MA. The collection will take place between 9am and 2pm. Most electronics will require a fee but cell phones, bicycles, and car/truck batteries will be collected for free.  Click here for more information.

The West Boylston Boy Scout Troop 151 will hold their redeemable bottle and can drive at the Major Edwards Elementary school, Crescent Street, West Boylston, MA, on Saturday, July 14th,  from 10am-1pm. All bottles and cans that are returnable in Massachusetts are accepted.

This month, the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center, 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA will be open from 2:30-4:30pm every Wednesday (except July 4th) and from 8-11 am on Saturday, July 21st. Recycle your Number 6 plastic Styrofoam on Saturday, July 28th at Grace Congregational Church, 76 Salem End Rd, Framingham, MA, from 10am to 3pm. Packing blocks and peanuts, meat or other food trays, foam coffee cups, and foam takeout trays are accepted for recycling. The Worcester Regional Association of Realtors Community Action Committee is asking for donations to its annual Backpack Drive. They are collecting new backpacks and school supplies to give to needy kids this upcoming school year. New items like pens, pencils, glue, glue stick, notebooks, folders, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, tape, and all those things that classrooms need are requested. In the Wachusett region, donations can be dropped off to the Janice Mitchell realty office at 1023 Main Street between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, and from 11am to pm on Sundays.

In Sterling, MA, Hiram O. Walker American Legion Post 189 is taking donations of ink and laser cartridges, cell phones, GPS devices, MP3 players, laptops, and digital cameras. They will recycle donations items for proceeds that will be put towards the legion hall’s floor repair. Items can be dropped off to the legion hall (32 School Street), Sterling Town Hall (1 Park Street) or Light Department (50 Main Street), Sterling DPW Recycling Center (171 Worcester Road), the Clinton Savings Bank (1 Main Street), or Leominster Credit Union (7 Main Street) in Sterling.

The Holden police department, along with the Millbury police department, are accepting unwanted medication at their new kiosks. Now residents can safely dispose of unwanted medications  any time of the year. The kiosks are located inside the police stations for security reasons but medications can be dropped off anonymously with no questions asked and at no cost.
