Wachusett Region Recycling Events-3/10/12

The weather is improving. It will be nice to get out to recycling my redeemable soda cans this weekend. The West Boylston Boy Scout Troop 151 sponsors a redeemable bottle and can drive at the Major Edwards Elementary school, Crescent Street, West Boylston, MA, on the second Saturday of every Month from 10 am-1pm. That’s this Saturday, March 10, 2012. All returnable bottles and cans can be donated and you can get “drive up drop off”service. The scouts will come to your car; you don’t have to do anything but drive up.

The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open every Wednesday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:30. They will also be open Saturday, March 17, 2012, from 8-11. It is open for the residents of Towns of Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston. Check website for the list of materials they take, it’s too long to include here. Fees are collected for many items, but they also take a wide range of items for free. The next quarterly hazardous paint and chemical collection event will be held in May.

A public Styrofoam recycling event will be held in Westboro, MA on March 24, 2012. It will be at the Tufts Machine Lot on Main Street from 9-2pm. This is a Girl Scout Silver Award project run with ReFoamIt. For more information, check out this  Facebook page at R3: Reduce, Reuse, ReFoamIt (https://www.facebook.com/pages/R3-Reduce-Reuse-ReFoamIt/163016673797730?sk=wall).

It’s prom dress season! Donate your 3-4 year old gently-used dress to:

* Anton’s Cleaners for their Belle of the Ball Prom Dress Drive. In 2012, it runs from February 1st to April 1st. Anton’s will take your donation, clean it, and make it available on ’boutique day’ to a girl who otherwise could not afford a dress.

*WHEAT Community Services. They are looking for prom gowns, shoes and accessories. Donations can be dropped off at the Hidden Treasure’s Store located at 180 High Street in Clinton during business hours – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10:00 – 4:00 and Friday 11:00-4:00. Gowns will be on sale to girls from low-income families starting on March 1, 2012.

Rutland’s Town-wide Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 8am to 2pm. Have a sale in your own yard or join others on the lower common to sell your stuff. Get your location put on a map for shoppers for $15 or reserve your spot on the common for $20 before March 31st (the prices rise by $5 after that). Check the town’s website for more information.

The Friends of the Gale Free Library in Holden, MA (23 Highland Street) is collecting books for this year’s used book sales. Gently-used adult and children’s books can be dropped off at the library during business hours. In addition to fiction books, they will accept books on all types of hobbies (cooking, sports, woodworking, antiques, computers, etc.). They are also looking for DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks.
