Wachusett Region Recycling Events-3/3/12

We are welcoming in the month of March with several inches of snow. What a change from the rest of the winter! Many of the recycling events listed below aren’t weather dependent, so keep them in mind.

Destination Imagination students have set up collection boxes at several locations in Sterling to collect books before March 3, 2012. They are collecting to add to the book collection in the Chocksett Middle School library. Books should be appropriate for middle-school-aged children. Make your book donation at these locations in Sterling, MA: Chocksett Middle School (40 Boutelle Road), Apple Town Market (9 Main Street), Old Sterling Candle (11 Main Street), and Conant Public Library (4 Meetinghouse Hill Road).

The Dress for Success  S.O.S. Send One Suit weekend  ends on March 4, 2012. Drop off your gently-used women’s business suit to your local dressbarn and help Dress for Success to “promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.”  Their local affiliate is located in the Denholm Building, 484 Main Street, Suite 110, Worcester, MA 01608. They can be contacted via email at worcester@dressforsuccess.org. Check their website for other local business clothing collection events throughout the year.

The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open every Wednesday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:30. They will also be open Saturday, March 17, 2012, from 8-11. It is open for the residents of Towns of Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston. Check website for the list of materials they take, it’s too long to include here. Fees are collected for many items, but they also take a wide range of items for free. The next quarterly hazardous paint and chemical collection event will be held in May.

Having you been saving your styrofoam? A public Styrofoam recycling event will be held in Westboro, MA on March 24, 2012. It will be at the Tufts Machine Lot on Main Street from 9-2pm. This is a Girl Scout Silver Award project run with ReFoamIt. * Anton’s Cleaners for their Belle of the Ball Prom Dress Drive. In 2012, it runs from February 1st to April 1st. Anton’s will take your donation, clean it, and make it available on ’boutique day’ to a girl who otherwise could not afford a dress.
