Wachusett Region Recycling Events-1/14/12


Recycle your number 6 styrofoam at the upcoming ReFoamIt event at the Grafton Municipal Center (enter via the Brigham Hill entrance) from  9am to 12pm on January 14, 2012. A small fee of $1.00 per bag of Styrofoam or $5.00 per carload will be collected.

The West Boylston Boy Scout Troop 151 sponsors a redeemable bottle and can drive on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Major Edwards Elementary school, Crescent Street, West Boylston, MA, from 10am-1pm.

This month, the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center, 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, will be open from 2:30-4:30 p.m., every Wednesday and from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012. They take many items for no fee, such as bicycles, #1-7 plastics, items with mercury, batteries, gas grills, and fluorescent lighting tubes.  Other items require a fee. Dress for Success is holding their annual S.O.S. Send One Suit weekend is being held  March 1-4, 2012. As in past years, dressbarn is acting as the national collection location for your gently-used nearly new suits. Dress for Success’s mission is to “promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” Their local affiliate is located in the Denholm Building, 484 Main Street, Suite 110, Worcester, MA 01608. The Kelley Backpacks Program creates backpacks in urgently needed materials that are given to children who are being checked out at UMass Memorial Hospital prior to going into foster care. The kids sometimes have very few possessions during this transition. The program is looking for donations of new or “good-as-new” backpacks, pajamas, underwear, socks, hats, gloves or mittens and baby wipes. Donations of stuffed animals, blankets, personal hygiene items, toys and games, books, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, diapers and formula are also welcome. The program also need goods for both boys and girls from infant through 18 years old.  For more information about the program or how to donate, email kelleybackpacks@gmail.com.
