Wachusett Region Recycling Events-12/24/11

These upcoming holidays are bound to produce a lot of recyclable material. Remember that whatever doesn’t fit in your own recycling bin can be brought to the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center on Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA any Wednesday and the third Saturday of the month. Save your cardboard boxes, empty wine bottles, styrofoam packing materials, metal cans, soda bottles and bring them for recycling.

Number 6 styrofoam can be recycled at an upcoming ReFoamIt event. There are two in January 2012 and both are open to the public. The first is being held on January 7th from 10am to 3pm at Grace Congregational Church in Framingham, MA. Another will be held on January 14th at the Grafton Municipal Center (enter via the the Brigham Hill entrance) from  9am to 12pm. They will be collecting a small fee ($1.00 per bag of Styrofoam or $5.00 per carload). Gather styrofoam from your friends and neighbors to load up your car.

Do you or someone you know get a new winter coat as a gift? Recycle the old one at the Jordan’s Furniture’s 17th annual Coats for Kids drive before it ends on January 8, 2012. Donations of gently-used Mens, Womens, Childrens, and Infants coats will be accepted at any Jordan’s Furniture or Anton’s Cleaners location. Check out Anton’s and Jordan’s websites for their locations.

Did you buy the wrong style of tomato sauce for the lasagna or too much peanut butter for those peanut butter blossom cookies? Commerce Bank is accepting donations of non-perishable food items for Joseph’s Project at its branch at 1057 Main St. in Holden, MA during business hours through Saturday, December 31, 2011.

The Kelley Backpacks Program creates backpacks in urgently needed materials that are given to children who are being checked out at UMass Memorial Hospital prior to going into foster care. The kids sometimes have very few possessions during this transition. The program is looking for donations of new or “good-as-new” backpacks, pajamas, underwear, socks, hats, gloves or mittens and baby wipes. Donations of stuffed animals, blankets, personal hygiene items, toys and games, books, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, diapers and formula are also welcome. The program also need goods for both boys and girls from infant through 18 years old.  For more information about the program or how to donate, email kelleybackpacks@gmail.com.

Happy Holidays!
