Wachusett Region Recycling Events-12/3/11

The calendar says we’re getting close to the winter sport season. If you have winter sports equipment like cross-country or downhill skis, ice or hockey skates, snowboards, or hockey pads or helmets that are still in usable condition that you no longer need, consider bringing them to one of two upcoming “swaps.” The 11th annual Winter Sports Swap is being held at Davis Hill Elementary School gymnasium (80 Jamieson Road, Holden, MA) this Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 9am to 12pm. To participate, you must drop off your equipment at the school on Friday, December 2nd, between 5 and 8pm. Items are sold on consignment, so you have a chance to make a little money.

Explorer Post 85 of Westboro, MA is holding the 44th annual Westboro Ski Swap on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 9am to 1pm at the Hastings School cafeteria (111 East Main Street). Items can be dropped on Friday, December 9th from 7 to 9 pm. Check their website for more information and the form that needs to be filled out in order to participate. These items will also be sold on consignment.

Girl Scout Troop 30665 will collect non-perishable food items for the Wachusett Food Pantry, from 4 to 5:30pm on December 3, 2011 at Holden Town Hall (1196 Main Street, Holden, MA). There will be other holiday events going on at the same time, so stop in if you can.

If you’re looking to get new holiday lights this year, consider recycling your old ones. HolidayLEDs.com will give you 25% your next purchase when you send your old lights to them for recycling. You’ll need to send them with a completed form (available at their website) so that you can get your discount. They send the lights to a company that recycles them into new light parts.

The Operation Suitcase store is taking donations of clothing. It is located at One Main Street, third floor, in Whitinsville, MA and is open from 12 to 5pm Sundays. They are looking for clothing for all ages, linens, shoes, books, toys, baby gear, toiletries and small household appliances. For more information, email Megan Riley at OperationSuitcase@yahoo.com.

Jordan’s Furniture’s 17th annual Coats for Kids drive is ongoing until January 8, 2012. Gently-used Mens, Womens, Childrens, and Infants coats can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture or Anton’s Cleaners location. Anton’s will clean the coats prior to donation. Anton’s will accept donations from collection drives held at schools, churches, and other community or corporate organizations. Coats should be in wearable condition without any rips or tears. Check out Anton’s and Jordan’s websites for their locations. School can participate in the Coats for Kids School Rewards Program, a competition for all local schools.
