Wachusett Region Recycling Events-10/29/11

Events for this Saturday, October 29th, 2011 are:

The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held from 10am to 2pm. Drop offs can be done anonymously. Also, you may remove personal identification from any containers used to hold medications. It is recommended that liquids be securely stored so that they don’t leak.  Local collection sites are the Holden Police Department (1370 Main Street Holden MA) and the Rutland Police Department (242 Main Street Rutland MA). Check their website for other locations, if these aren’t convenient.

There are two redeemable bottle and can collection  drives in Holden, MA on Saturday. Boy Scout Troop 175 will hold theirs in the parking lot of Immanuel Lutheran Church (on Shrewsbury Street, near the WTAG towers) from 9 am to 2 pm. The Holden Fire Explorers will be collecting bottle and can donations at the old fire station on Main Street from 9am to noon.

A food drive for non-perishable food and personal care items (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.)  is being held in Rutland, MA at Naquag Field, The SCOR FC soccer club will collect donations from 10am to 3pm. The filed is located at 285 Main Street.

The Holden Explorers will also be holding an electronics recycling event. This will take place at the old police station on Main Street in Holden, MA (near Wachusett Regional High School). All types of electronics will be collected for a fee from 9am to 1pm.

Ongoing or upcoming events:

Jordan’s Furniture’s 17th annual Coats for Kids drive runs from October 15, 2011 to January 8, 2012. Gently-used Mens, Womens, Childrens, and Infants coats can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture or Anton’s Cleaners location. Anton’s will clean the coats prior to donation. Anton’s will accept donations from collection drives held at schools, churches, and other community or corporate organizations. Coats should be in wearable condition without any rips or tears. Check out Anton’s and Jordan’s websites for their locations. School can participate in the Coats for Kids School Rewards Program, a competition for all local schools.

Gently used clothing, bedding, pillows and nonperishable food items will be collected by the Northbridge Girl Scouts on November 9, 2011 during the second annual Thanksgiving Food & Clothing Drive to benefit the Peace of Bread Kitchen/Pantry at the Presbyterian Church. Donations will be collected between 10am and 1pm at the church, which is located on Cottage Street, Whitinsville, MA. Drop off boxes are also in these locations in the area:  Whitinsville Community Center, The Gauthier Residence (28 Pleasant St. porch), Gaudette Insurance Agency (non-perishable only), W. Edward Balmer Elementary School, Northbridge Elementary School, Northbridge Middle School (clothing only), Rockdale Youth Center, Whitinsville Public Library and Milford Federal Savings & Loan.
