Wachusett Region Recycling Events-10/8/11

Halloween Costume Swap events will be held in various Massachusetts locations on Saturday, October 8, 2011. Check this link to find out more information and the locations: National Costume Swap Day.

Boy Scout Troop 151’s can and bottle drive is happening this Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 10 am to 1 pm at Major Edwards Elementary School, 70 Crescent St., West Boylston, MA.

Recycling at Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center happens every Wednesday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:30 pm and Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 8 to 11am. Bulk items like appliances, computer monitors, furniture, tires, and propane tanks are collected. Fees range from $2 to $20. Larger tires and cubic yards of household project debris cost more.  Other items, such as mercury thermometers, #6 plastic, recyclable plastics, computer parts (not monitors), batteries, and fluorescent light bulbs are collected for free.

United Bank is partnering with WSRS and WTAG to hold an Electronics Recycling Days on October 22, 2011 at its Shrewsbury, MA branch (564 Main Street). The event is free and will collect corded electronics items like computers, fax machines, lamps, and microwaves (TVs will not be collected). A drawing for a gift certificate to Plaza Azteca will be held at the event.

ReFoamIt will be collecting #6 plastic/Styrofoam at Grace Congregational Church in  Framingham, MA on October 22, 2011 from 10am to 3pm. The church is located at 76 Salem End Road. This event is open to the public. There is no cost for recycling but donations are accepted. Some examples of #6 plastics are packing peanuts, packing blocks, trays that hold meat or fruit, restaurant take-out containers, and white foam coffee cups. Check out their website for pictures of what the do/don’t accept and dates/locations of other events.

Jordan’s Furniture’s 17th annual Coats for Kids drive runs from October 15, 2011 to January 8, 2012. Gently-used Mens, Womens, Childrens, and Infants coats can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture or Anton’s Cleaners location. Anton’s will clean the coats prior to donation. Anton’s will accept donations from collection drives held at schools, churches, and other community or corporate organizations. Coats should be in wearable condition without any rips or tears. Check out Anton’s and Jordan’s websites for their locations. School can participate in the Coats for Kids School Rewards Program, a competition for all local schools.

The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 10am to 2pm. This event provides a way for people to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs safely. The last 2 events collected 309 tons of pills nationwide. Local collection sites are the Holden Police Department (1370 Main Street Holden Ma, 01520) and the Rutland Police Department (242 Main Street Rutland Ma, 01543). Check their website for other locations, if these aren’t convenient.
