Wachusett Region Recycling Events-9/24/11

Did anyone participate in the personal document recycling event at the Wachusett Watershed Regional recycling Center? I wasn’t able to get specifics on the event, so am wondering if it did in fact run.

Princeton’s townwide yard sale is scheduled for  Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 8am to 2pm. You can still set up your own sale, even if you didn’t register to be on the map of locations.

The Friends of Richards Memorial Library at 44 Richards Avenue in Paxton, MA is currently collecting donations for their annual book sale. Donations should be dropped off during business hours prior to September 30th, 2011. The group is looking for donations of books for all ages, children’s games and puzzles, movie DVDs or VHS tapes, music CDs, or books on tape/CD.

There are two electronics recycling events on October 1st, 2011. The first is in Paxton, MA at St. Columba’s Church, 10 Richards Avenue from 9am to 2pm. The other is at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson, MA from 8am to 2pm. Many types of electronics will be accepted for a fee at both events. Residents from any town are welcome.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Game Day Challenge is a recycling competition for colleges. During the competition, colleges and universities implement and track the progress of a recycling program. Registration is open to schools with football teams. It’s goals are to reduce waste at football games, increase awareness of and participation in waste reduction. Participants are judged on five categories: waste reduction, greenhouse gas reduction, diversion rate, recycling, and organics reduction. Registration is open until September 30, 2011.

Jordan’s Furniture’s 17th annual Coats for Kids drive runs from October 15, 2011 to January 8, 2012. Gently-used Mens, Womens, Childrens, and Infants coats can be dropped off at any Jordan’s Furniture or Anton’s Cleaners location. Anton’s will clean the coats prior to donation. Anton’s will accept donations from collection drives held at schools, churches, and other community or corporate organizations. Coats should be in wearable condition without any rips or tears. Check out Anton’s and Jordan’s websites for their locations. School can participate in the Coats for Kids School Rewards Program, a competition for all local schools. Gently-used children’s books can also be donated to the Sterling Fire Department for their literacy partnership with Reading Tree, a non-profit organization that supplies books to  disadvantaged kids in the region. The collection box is located in the rear of the fire department’s parking lot at 5 Main Street, Sterling, MA so donations can be made any time.
