Wachusett Region Recycling Events-9/10/11

The Boy Scout Troop 151 can and bottle drives are held on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Major Edwards Elementary School, 70 Crescent St., West Boylston, MA. That would be this Saturday, September 10th, 2011.

Next weekend, look for these events:

Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 for recycling and on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 8 to 11am. The 17th is also the quarterly hazardous chemicals recycling day.

Number 6 plastic (styrofoam) can be recycled on ReFoamIt’s recycling event on September 17, 2011 from 9am to 12pm at the Grafton, MA Municipal Center, 30 Providence Rd, (enter via the Brigham Hill). There is no fee to drop off your plastics and it is open to the public. Peanuts, packing blocks, foam trays from meats and vegetables can all be recycled at this event.

Also on September 17th, 2011 is Sterling’s townwide yard sale. It will be held no matter what the weather from 8am to 2pm.  For $20, you can have your yard sale advertised on the yard sale map. Or, for $25, reserve a spot on the town common for the day. Registration fees and map sale profits will benefit the Youth Programs at First Church. Register by September 9th  via the registration forms or pick the forms up at the library,  town hall or the church office.

Residents of Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling, and West Boylston can bring personal documents to the Wachusett Watershed Recycling Center for their Personal Document Shredding Day on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 8am to 11am. The center is located at 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA. I have not been successful in finding out the cost or how much materials can be brought. I suggest bringing as much as you think they may take and a checkbook.

Princeton’s townwide yard sale is scheduled for  Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 8am to 2pm. To sign up for participation (which typically gets your location on a map so people can find you) send a $25 check to First Congregational Church of Princeton, UCC, Attn: Yard sale, 14 Mountain Rd., Princeton, 01541 before September 15th.

The Friends of Richards Memorial Library at 44 Richards Avenue in Paxton, MA is currently collecting donations for their annual book sale. Donations should be dropped off during business hours prior to September 30th, 2011. The group is looking for donations of books for all ages, children’s games and puzzles, movie DVDs or VHS tapes, music CDs, or books on tape/CD.

Gently-used children’s books can also be donated to the Sterling Fire Department for their literacy partnership with Reading Tree, a non-profit organization that supplies books to  disadvantaged kids in the region. The collection box is located in the rear of the fire department’s parking lot at 5 Main Street, Sterling, MA so donations can be made any time.

Start planning for the Jordan’s Furniture’s annual Coats for Kids donation event and the DEA’s prescription medicine recycling event, both should be happening in October.
