Wachusett Region Recycling Events-5/14/11


There are a four recycling events this Saturday, May 14, 2011:

+The  Holden Fire Explorers are collecting electronics and appliances for recycling from 9 am to 2 pm at the old police station on Main Street in Holden.

+Your mail carrier will be collecting canned and nonperishable foods this Saturday as they travel their delivery routes. Leave your donation near your mailbox for collection.

+Boy Scout Troop 151 is holding their monthly redeemable can and bottle drive from 10 am to 1 pm at Major Edwards Elementary School, 70 Crescent St., West Boylston, MA.

+ReFoamIt is holding a styrofoam plastic recycling event in Grafton, MA at the Municipal Center, 30 Providence Road from 9am to 12pm. This event is open to non-residents as well as residents of Grafton. They will accept packing blocks, foam takeout containers and trays, meat/produce packing trays, and packing peanuts. They will also accept plastic utensils.

These two donation events end on Sunday, May 15, 2011:

The fifth annual Worcester: The City that Reads book drive hopes to collect 25,000 new or gently-used books that will be donated to schools and local organizations. Keep an eye out for collection sites in the city of Worcester. For more information, call John or Anne-Marie Monfredo at (508) 853-3444.

Donate your old point-and-shoot camera to the One-Shot Project. Cameras and equipment will be brought to Iraq to so that children ages 10-17 living in below average conditions can be given an artistic-vocational opportunity. Your working point-and-shoot camera can be mailed to the address below. See their website for information on postage payment assistance.

On May 21, 2011, the Paxton Boy Scouts are holding a redeemable bottle and can drive on the Paxton Town Common. Any redeemable glass or plastic bottle, or aluminum can can be brought for drop off. They will help you unload your car, if needed.

The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 and will be open on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 8 to 11am for bulk item recycling. Some items require a fee – check their website to see what they accept and what fees they charge.
