Wachusett Region Recycling Events – 2/26/11

Dress for Success is holding its annual S.O.S. (Send One Suit) Weekend from February 24-27, 2011. Bring a gently used women’s suit to any local dressbarn store for donation. Dress for Success provides ready-to-wear business clothing to disadvantaged women so that they can participate in job interviews. local dressbarn’s are located at:

White City Shopping Center, 50 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA


Donations for the West Boylston Food Pantry can be made at the Beaman Memorial Public Library (8 Newton St. West Boylston, MA) during business hours until February 28, 2011. Non-perishable food and paper items donations can be put in the collection box on a table near the main desk of the library.


Holden resident Jeanne Gunning is coordinating an effort of Holden’s First Congregational Church to bring a shipping container full of goods to orphanages in Moldova. They are collecting the following items: used sports equipment and bicycles, clothing, sheets, blankets, tools, crayons and craft supplies. Donations can be brought to the First Congregational Church office (1180 Main Street Holden MA 01520) when the church is open, or left on the back porch of the church. Be sure to note that the items are for the Moldova project. Donations will be accepted through March 11, 2011.


Non-perishable food items will be collected in lieu of fines at the Gale Free Library during the month of March 2011. Bring your food donations to the circulation desk. All donations will be given to the Wachusett Food Pantry.


The One-Shot Project is hoping to put together 20 DSLR camera and equipment setups before May 15, 2011. These camera packages will be brought to Iraq to so that children ages 10-17 living in below average conditions can be given an artistic-vocational opportunity. Your working point-and-shoot camera can be mailed to the address below. See their website for information postage payment assistance.

Sterling’s Friends of the Library group is looking for donations of gently-used children’s books for its ongoing book sale. Donations can be dropped off at the main desk of the Conant Public Library, 4 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling, MA during business hours.


Contact Brian Wood, a Boy Scout with a troop from Sutton, MA to have your automobile, truck, motorcycle or boat’s lead acid battery picked up at your home and properly recycled by a company in Sterling, MA. He’ll also collect your scrap metal and old appliances for recycling. His email address is: j.wood36@yahoo.com.


The West Boylston Community Food Pantry, 26 Central St., is looking for donations of paper products, like toilet paper and paper towels, as well as food items. The pantry is open every third Tuesday from 3 to 6pm for donation drop-offs.


Paxton’s Emergency Management Team is looking for donations of items to used at an emergency shelter in the event of an disaster. Their budget did not allow for the purchase of these items. They are looking for children’s arts and craft items, coloring books and crayons in like-new condition, toiletries (unopened packages of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, small unopened bottles of shampoo, etc), canned fruit, packaged energy/power bars. They are looking for other items people are less likely to have on hand that are not listed here. Call the team at (508) 791-6600 to arrange a drop-off of donated items or find out what else they need.
