Wachusett Region Recycling Events – 1/15/11

You may still be digging out from this week’s storm, but take some time to get out to the many recycling events being held this weekend or the are ongoing.


The Burlington Coat Factory’s 4th annual coat drive runs until January 17, 2011. Bring your coat to the customer service desk and receive 10% off your purchase. Local locations are at 344 Greenwood Street, Worcester, MA, and 100 Boston Turnpike, Shrewbury, MA.


The Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center is open on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30pm and on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 from 8-11am. The center is located at 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA. Some items are collected for free, others require a fee. Check their website for the list of items they collect and the associated fees. In addition, the West Boylston Boy Scouts will be collecting redeemable bottles and cans and the Holden Fire Explorers will be collecting cell phones and computer printer ink cartridges..


The Holden Fire Explorers will be holding a redeemable bottle and can drive at the Holden DPW (Adams Road, Holden, MA) on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 9 am to 12 pm.


Also on Saturday, January 15, 2011 is the ReFoamIt Styrofoam and polystyrene collection event. They will collecting polystyrene foam that is labeled with the recycling symbol 6 with the letters PS under it.  The event is free and open anyone.  The collection site is located at the Grafton Municipal Center, 30 Providence Rd (use the Brigham Hill Entrance to access the collection site at the rear of the building) from 9am to 12pm.


Sterling’s Friends of the Library group is looking for donations of gently-used children’s books for its ongoing book sale. Donations can be dropped off at the main desk of the Conant Public Library, 4 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling, MA during business hours.


A non-perishable food and paper items collection box will be on a table near the main desk of the Beaman Memorial Public Library (8 Newton St. West Boylston, MA) in January and February 2011. Donations for the West Boylston Food Pantry can be made during business hours.


The West Boylston Community Food Pantry, 26 Central St., is looking for donations of paper products, like toilet paper and paper towels, as well as food items. The pantry is open every third Tuesday from 3 to 6pm for donation drop-offs.


Paxton’s Emergency Management Team is looking for donations of items to used at an emergency shelter in the event of an disaster. Their budget did not allow for the purchase of these items. They are looking for children’s arts and craft items, coloring books and crayons in like-new condition, toiletries (unopened packages of soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, small unopened bottles of shampoo, etc), canned fruit, packaged energy/power bars. They are looking for other items people are less likely to have on hand that are not listed here. Call the team at (508) 791-6600 to arrange a drop-off of donated items or find out what else they need.
