Wachusett Region Recycling Events – 7/31/10

Sterling’s annual townwide yard sale is being held on Saturday September 18th from 8am – 2pm. The cost is $20 to hold a sale in your yard, or $25 to have a spot on the town common. You’ll get publicity and be included on the yard sale map. Registration forms are available at the Conant Public Library (4 Meetinghouse Road, Sterling, MA) and Town Hall (Butterick Municipal Building, 1 Park Street). For more information, contact Linda Davis at 978-563- 1773 or davisfarmers@comcast.net, or Vicki Gaw at 978-422-7249 or vgaw@ieee.org.

Donate hard cover and soft cover adult/children books to the Friends of the Gale Free Library (Holden, MA), the Friends of the Princeton Library or the Friends of Richards Memorial Library (Paxton, MA) for their 2010 annual books sales. Fiction and non-fiction books on any topic are welcome. They can be dropped off at the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland St (Route 31), Holden, MA during business hours, on the porch of Princeton’s Mechanics Hall (104 Main Street, Route 140, East Princeton, MA), or at Richards Memorial Library (44 Richards Ave, Paxton, MA) during business hours.

If you have non-perishable foods you’re not going to eat, why not donate them? Maybe you thought you’d try a new soup flavor but it doesn’t appeal to you now. Or you mistakenly bought crunchy, not smooth, peanut butter. Unopened perishable items and personal care items, such as toothbrushes and soap, can be donated at Herlihy Insurance in the Rutland Plaza, 83 Main Street, Rutland, MA, 2nd floor) and Rutland Pharmacy, 18 Maple Avenue, Rutland, MA. The Rutland Girls Scouts are holding this drive throughout 2010. There is also a collection box near the registers at the Big Y on Reservoir Street, Holden, MA for packaged Wachusett Food Pantry donations. Food donations can be dropped off at St. Patrick’s (290 Main Street, Rutland, MA) and the First Congregational Churches (264 Main Street, Rutland, MA) any time.

Contact Brian Wood, a Boy Scout with a troop from Sutton, MA to have your automobile, truck, motorcycle or boat’s lead acid battery picked up at your home and properly recycled by a company in Sterling, MA. His email address is: j.wood36@yahoo.com
