Wachusett Region Recycling Events – 6/19/2010

Redeemable bottles and cans will be collected in two Holden, MA locations this Saturday, June 19, 2010. The Boy Scouts will be at the Lutheran Church on Shrewsbury Street from 9am to 2pm. The Holden Fire Explorers will be at the DPW on Adams Road from 9am to 12pm.

The Wachusett Watershed Recycling Center (131 Raymond Huntington Highway, West Boylston, MA) will be open on Saturday, July 17, 2010, to collect your unused paints and household chemicals.

Students at Rutland’s Glenwood Elementary School are collecting juice pouches and sending them to Terracycle to be recycled into things like totes and lunch boxes. By sending in 15, 700 Capri Sun, Honest Kids, and other brand of  pouches, the school has earned $300. If you  know a Glenwood student, give them your juice pouches for recycling. Or mail them to Glenwood Elementary School, 65 Glenwood Road, Rutland, MA 01543 (label the mailing ‘drink pouches’). Any school, non-profit organization or individual can sign up and send in collected pouches.

Donate hard cover and soft cover adult/children books to the Friends of the Gale Free Library or the Friends of the Princeton Library for their 2010 annual books sales. Fiction and non-fiction books on any topic are welcome. They can be dropped off at the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland St (Route 31), Holden, MA during business hours, or on the porch of Princeton’s Mechanics Hall (104 Main Street, Route 140, East Princeton, MA).

If you have non-perishable foods you’re not going to eat, why not donate them? You may have bought one too many cans of of green beans for the holiday casserole that you haven’t yet eaten. Or you mistakenly bought crunchy, not smooth, peanut butter. Unopened perishable items and personal care items, such as toothbrushes and soap, can be donated at Herlihy Insurance in the Rutland Plaza, 83 Main Street, Rutland, MA, 2nd floor) and Rutland Pharmacy, 18 Maple Avenue, Rutland, MA. The Rutland Girls Scouts are holding this drive throughout 2010.

Bring your gently worn shoes or boots of any kind to UPS stores at 800 Main Street, Holden, MA, 210 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA or 482 Southbridge St, Auburn, MA for donation to Soles4Souls. This local drive aims to collect 100,000 pairs of gently worn shoes to donate to those in the US and around the world. Recent news: click here.
