If you have non-perishable foods you’re not going to eat, why not donate them? You may have bought one too many cans of of green beans for the holiday casserole that you haven’t yet eaten. Or you mistakenly bought crunchy, not smooth, peanut butter. Unopened perishable items and personal care items, such as toothbrushes and soap, can be donated at Herlihy Insurance in the Rutland Plaza, 83 Main Street, Rutland, MA, 2nd floor) and Rutland Pharmacy, 18 Maple Avenue, Rutland, MA. The Rutland Girls Scouts are holding this drive throughout 2010. On May8th, leave your non-perishable items by your mail box for the National Association of Letter Carriers’  Stamp Out Hunger food drive. They are collecting items like canned meats, fish, or soup, juice, pasta or rice, or cereal.

Bring your gently worn shoes or boots of any kind to UPS stores at 800 Main Street, Holden, MA, 210 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA or 482 Southbridge St, Auburn, MA for donation to Soles4Souls. This local drive aims to collect 100,000 pairs of gently worn shoes to donate to those in the US and around the world. Recent news: click here.
