About This Site

Formal city/town-wide curbside recycling of paper, plastic, and metal has become much more prevalent in recent years, but nearly anything can be recycled or reused. I hope to bring together lots of information about where to recycle a number of items, some of which you may not have thought could be recycled.

All references will refer to ‘recycling’ for ease of posting, even when the more appropriate word would be ‘reuse.’ While some companies local to the Wachusett region of Massachusetts will be listed, links to national websites can also be found. Only information about companies, other ‘organized’ entities (such as library or senior center groups and the like), or people connected to companies or organized entities will be posted. For the most part, contact information for individual parties or informal groups will not be posted at this time (I think it will be safer for all involved that way).

Listings are gathered from many sources and their appearance here should not be interpreted as an endorsement of their services. In most cases, I have not had personal experience with the company. Note that listed information can become out of date at any time.

Users should research the company/business before using. When you’re thinking about recycling, remember that some companies are ‘for profit’ and some are ‘non-profit.’  Some companies do not have stellar reputations (i.e., only a small percentage of donated funds gets to the customer) and some do wonderful work. This may influence who you choose to recycle with. Also remember that there may be opportunities for tax breaks for some donated items.

Bookmark this site as a favorite so you can always refer to it. Pass the link along to your friends or mention that this is where you read about the recipient of your donated goods. Posts on this blog will be updated when there is new information to add. Subscribers will get notifications about new posts, but you’ll need to check old posts for updates.

If you have a suggestion for a new category or general comments about the topic or site, please comment under the ‘About’ post. Comments related to a particular item and information regarding additional recycling avenues should be posted under that item’s category so others can see it where it’s most relevant.

This is a work in progress. As I gather info, I am learning more about recycling. Thus this site’s contents and organization will change over time. Thanks for reading!

  1. I’d like information about recycling paints, paint thinner, and related products in Holden or places where Holden residents can bring these products.

    • Check out my posting regarding How to Recycle Building Materials. This may suit your needs.

  2. This looks like a great way to reach out to your residents! We have a ton of categories on our site and just redid some of our grouping. You can check it out at http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling (Product Disposal/recycling categories are on the right.)
