How to Recycle Mercury Thermometers

Elemental (or liquid) mercury  can cause health-related problems if it’s vapors are inhaled or the liquid mercury is absorbed though the skin. Liquid mercury does not break down and can easily travel throughout the environment if a spill is not cleaned up carefully. Exchange your mercury-filled thermometer to the Wachusett Recycled Resource Center or drop off at the Sterling MA Department of Public Works (171 Worcester Road) for proper recycling.
